Midsummer plans and inspo

In about a week's time we celebrate Midsummer here in Sweden. It began as a tradition to celebrate the summer solstice and that the days grew longer and the cold and darkness drifted further away. During the midsummer weekend us Swedes celebrate by eating good, traditional Swedish food (such as herring and strawbery cake, yummie!), dance around a pole dressed with flowers and birch twigs and such (like in the picture above. Although it's mostly young children and their parents who does the dancing. And drunk Swedes), and drink and socialize. Games are often included amongst younger generations aswell.
When I was a child I didn't like celebrating midsummer, I thought it was just another excuse for grown ups to consume alkohol and become intoxicated. Now that I'm a grown up myself I've started to enjoy celebrating midsummer, not because of the excuse to drink alkohol thou. No, it's due to the fact that you get to come together with friends and family and eat nice food and socialize. I also love the opportunity to be able to dress in pretty dresses and wear a crown made out of genuin flowers!
This midsummer me and Pontus will be celebrating midsummer at his parents house in Gotland. For those of you who don't know, Gotland is a big island in the Baltic Sea, outside of Stockholm. It takes almost four hours to get there by ferry, half an hour if you fly there. Pontus and his family has these cutest little houses in the captial of Gotland, called Visby, that are in typicall old Visby style. You can see the old, old, old town wall that goes around all of the central parts of Visby from inside the courtyard! I have a friend who lives just three minutes walk away from Pontus's familys house, so maybe we get the chance to celebrate with her aswell. And by a coincident my mum is also gonna be in Gotland over the midsummer weekend, but in another part of the island and not in Visby. I'm so looking forward to going to Visby, a little get-away to a beautiful town! And I think I know exactly what to wear on midsummer eve, but you'll have to wait til' then to see it!
Today I'm just staying indoors, the weather continues to be horrible, rainy and cold and windy, here in Stockholm. I'll light some candeles, watch a movie and drink my favourite tea! You just gotta try and make the best out of a day like this. Wishing you all a happy saturday!
